Leighton Bennett and Connor Hopkins shared the titles on the opening day of the JDC’s new Advanced Tour on Sunday.
Bennett, the 2019 BDO world youth champion, won the first event of the day, which was held at the Oaklands, in Cinderford, averaging an impressive 96.19 to beat Luke Littler 6-4 in the final.
Bennett’s bid for both titles ended in the semi-finals of Event Two, as he let a 4-2 lead slip in a 5-4 defeat to Hopkins.
And it was the Welsh youngster who would go all the way, seeing off Henry Coates 6-1 in the final, with an 85.55 average.
The previous day saw the opening two events of the JDC’s Foundation Tour take place, as players looked to make a strong start in the race for the four available tour cards for a spot in next year’s Advanced Tour.
England’s Cayden Smith and Pim van Bijnen, of the Netherlands, contested both of the day’s finals. Smith won the first final 5-3, while van Bijnen reversed the scoreline to prevail 5-3 in the second event’s decider.
The JDC Foundation and Advanced Tours resume on July 3-4.
